Kindness and Science

Mrs. Hoyt's kindergarten class has done great work showing appropriate, safe and kind behavior (ASK). As a class "Hoot" reward her students received additional science instruction.  Mr. Mussleman and Ms. Pavlicek from the Burlington Science Center visited the classroom to help provide instruction.

During my walk-through, I saw the kindergartens studying warm and cold blooded animals. The following infrared pictures are of an owl (our school mascot) and the kindergarten class with Mrs. Hoyt and Mr. Lyons.  The infrared camera helps the students understand the difference between warm and cold blooded animals.

Parents Night Out this Thursday 2/9!

Hello,

As part of the Burlington High School Student Council, our senior class is running a parents night out fundraiser this Thursday night, 2/9/2017, at the Burlington High School cafeteria. We have received very few responses to our fliers and realize that they may have been received after the due date. We encourage you to RSVP by email to ermoreira@verison.net or joconnell1098@gmail.com to let us know if you plan to come! We look forward to meeting all parents and children :)

Thank you,

Julie O'Connell & Emily Moreira

Grade 3 Science

Mrs. Cunha's third graders were doing research in their lab groups this morning during my walk-through. The students were studying magnetism.

Math

Ms. Varrell's second grade students are very proud of the multiple strategies they utilized to solve subtraction problems. The students shared how much they enjoy math with me during my walk-through this morning.

Accept the Challenge

This morning we had an all school assembly titled "Accept the Challenge." This program is designed to promote understanding and empathy of individual differences and challenges. The goal of the program and inclusive schools is for all students to learn strategies that will enable them to use their strengths to compensate for their vulnerabilities. I would like to thank Maureen Blazejewski and Karri Tabasky the developers of the program for presenting to us ways to support each other.

Grade 1 Field Trip

The first grade had a great field trip to Legoland today. Prior to the field trip all the first graders wrote Mr. Lyons persuasive letters that warranted the field trip. I had to not only approve the field trip but attend it too! I think I enjoyed it as much as the first graders.

Grade 5 Physical Education

In fifth grade Ms. Govoni has incorporated ice-skating as part of the physical education curriculum.  I would like to thank Ms. Govoni for all her hard work. It was wonderful to see ice-skating instruction promote self-esteem. The self-esteem and confidence gained by students during this program is applicable to not just physical education but, all academic areas.

I greatly enjoyed skating with the fifth graders.  They thought it was fun to take an ice-skating selfie and do a grade 5 ice-skating "Dab."
