This was originally posted at http://www.bpsedtech.org/2017/12/22/pine-glen-childrens-book-discussion-group/.

Fourteen teachers and Ms. Small are participating in a discussion group to enhance knowledge and appreciation of children’s books while finding ways to connect them to our curriculums as well as to build community. For our classrooms, each group member received the following 22 books that include fiction picture books, nonfiction picture books, graphic novels, and young adult books to use with students.
  • Creepy Pair of Underwear by Aaron Reynolds
  • My Teacher is a Monster by Peter Brown
  • The Judgmental Flower by Julia Cook
  • This House, Once by Deborah Freedman
  • She Persisted by Chelsea Clinton
  • The Sandwich Swap by Rania Al Abdullah
  • Happy Dreamer by Paul Reynolds
  • What Do You Do With An Idea? By Kobi Yamada
  • What Do You Do With A Problem? By Kobi Yamada
  • The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill
  • Roller Girl by Victoria Jamieson
  • Ghosts by Raina Telgemeier
  • Life by Cynthia Rylant & Brendan Wenzel
  • Radiant Child: The Story of Young Artist Jean-Michel Basquiat
  • Wishtree by Katherine Applegat
  • Park Scientists: Gila Monsters, Geysers, and Grizzly Bears in America’s Own Backyard by Mary Kay Carson & Tom Uhlma
  • Citizen Scientists: Be a Part of Scientific Discovery from Your Own Backyard by Loree Griffin Burns & Ellen Harasimowicz
  • The Not So Quiet Library by Zach OHor
  • A Boy, a Mouse, and a Spider: The Story of E. B. White by Barbara Herkert & Lauren Castillo

There are children’s book discussion groups at all four elementary schools. We got the idea from Susan DiSanto, the former teacher librarian of Burlington High School.
